Dinner is available at Goose Pond Colony at The Docks Restaurant. Goose Pond Colony’s second golf course is the Plantation Course, located just a short drive from the main complex. This course has open fairways, bent grass greens, and plenty of hazards. The Par 72 course measures 6,855 yards from the blue tees. Weekday rates are $28 for 18 holes. Twilight rates after 3pm are $23 with a cart. Weekend and holiday green fees are $33 for 18 holes with a cart. Winter rates are $23.

The newest golf course in the Scottsboro area is Broken Arrow Golf Course, located at 399 Broken Arrow Drive. This 18-hole mountainside course is open to the public. The course’s rolling terrain overlooks Lake Guntersville and the Tennessee River. Broken Arrow Golf Course has Bermuda fairways and bent grass greens. The Par 72 course plays 5,702 yards from the blue tees. Weekday rates with a cart are a reasonable $25 for 18 holes; $23 for seniors. Weekend and holiday rates for 18 holes with a cart are $30. Rates without a cart are $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends and holidays. Broken Arrow has a beautiful clubhouse with a restaurant.

The Scottsboro Golf and Country Club is located on Hwy. 79 Bypass Broad Street. This 9-hole regulation course offers a fun layout for golfers of all skill levels. The Par 35 course plays 2,760 yards from the longest tees.

Simpsonville is a family-friendly town in South Carolina’s Upcountry, just minutes away from the city of Greenville. The Hejaz Shrine Golf Course is part of the Hejaz Shrine Recreation Club in Mauldin. The 18-hole par 72 course has rolling terrain and Bermuda greens. The course is challenging enough for good players, but still fun for the occasional golfer. Weekday rates are $33 (seniors $23) and weekends and holidays are $43 (seniors $33). Rates include a cart. There is a pro shop, driving range, and a grill that serves breakfast and lunch. Proceeds from the course fund the Shrine Temple and Shiners’ Hospitals.
The Lakeview Golf Course is located on Piedmont Golf Course Road in Piedmont, South Carolina. The par 72 course plays 6,470 yards from the blue tees. Monday-Friday rates are $25. Weekend and holiday rates are $33. Prices include a cart. Seniors can play Monday-Thursday for only $20. The club has a driving range, putting green, and pro shop. Lakeview accepts cash only, no credit cards.

Carolina Springs Golf Course is located on Scuffletown Road in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. There are two 9-hole courses with Bermuda fairways and bent grass greens. The terrain is rolling with woods and ponds. The club has a pro shop and a restaurant. Green fees are $25 on weekdays (Twilight- $20) and $34 on weekends (Twilight- $26). Prices include a cart. Recent upgrades have been made to both courses.

It should come as no surprise that some of the most expensive golf clubs in the country are found in and around Las Vegas. It’s just not as easy as you might think to keep a lush green in the middle of a desert! That said, many private golf courses in the area don’t even list rates, so one can only guess how steep the rates actually are. But there are still a number of private and public courses where you can go and play a great round of golf - and still leave the green with some greenbacks in your wallet.

I lost at blackjack last night but I still have $50 left…can I play golf, or should I just head over to the slot machines instead?

Well, I guess that all depends on just how lucky you feel. But if you are tired of giving the casinos all of your money, and want to take advantage of the great golf courses Las Vegas has to offer, then you are in luck…maybe. A growing concern for those wanting to play on the golf courses in the Las Vegas area is the fluctuating rates. Hey, we’re all used to rates changing due to seasons, lighting conditions, reservations…the works. But some of the golf courses in Las Vegas have divided the seasons up in ever-more-imaginative ways, that seem to try and squeeze every last possible dollar out of the green. However (and this is subject to change, so DEFINITELY try to book some green time as far in advance as possible), the following golf courses can be played for $50 or less: Craig Ranch, Los Prados, and Eagle Crest.

I managed to escape the casinos with $100…golf anyone?

If you have been able to squirrel away a Ben Franklin, then a lot of the golf courses Las Vegas offers will gladly put you on the green. Now again, the rates at some golf courses are changing by the day, it seems - so be sure to check before showing up with only Ben. Those officially posting fees of $100 or less during the winter months are: Desert Rose, Las Vegas Golf Club, Painted Desert, Highland Falls, Palm Valley, Las Vegas National Golf Club, and the Rhodes Ranch. Oh, and for those not “in the know”, rates tend to be higher for golf courses in Las Vegas during the winter months, as the heat can be downright brutal during the summer. Oh yeah, Las Vegas is in the middle of a big desert, isn’t it?

I really need to stretch my golfing funds as much as possible…what options do I have?

No worries, my friend - sometimes the cards just aren’t rolling. You can save anywhere from $5-15 by walking golf courses instead of driving the carts. Not a great option during the heat of the summer months, but an option that can help stretch the dollar a little farther.

Twilight rates are another way to save money, but they can be very confusing. What is most confusing about the golf courses Las Vegas has to offer is that their twilight rates are not necessarily offered in the dying light. During the summer months, and due to the extreme heat, twilight hours tend to start in the late morning and early afternoon. In the winter, however, twilight hours occur at the end of the day, and it is not uncommon for golfers to not get in an entire 18 holes.

While Las Vegas does have many exclusive golf clubs, with prices so steep that they refuse to post them, there are a number of reasonably priced golf courses that offer some great greens at prices even the worst of gamblers can afford. Plus, if you are wise and plan accordingly, you can get those low prices even lower - and maybe even get in another round of golf to keep your mind off those lousy cards for a few hours longer! After a great round on the green, I can promise you that you will not leave Las Vegas feeling like a “loser” - even if your wallet tells you otherwise.

For the very serious golfer, the Outer Banks Golf Association is on hand with special play and accommodations packages to anyone looking to put a bit of swing into their vacation. Group rates are available for corporations, bachelor parties, or any gathering of golf buddies. Studebaker Golf Course is located in South Bend, Indiana. It was established in 1919 making it the city’s oldest course. The course is a 9-hole layout. It is a par 29 measuring 1,898 yards featuring bluegrass/fescue and bent grass greens.

Play begins and finishes with par fours while the rest are par threes. Water comes into play on the 165 yard fifth hole. There are few bunkers and the course is relatively flat. Signature holes include numbers four and seven. Hole four measures 192 yards and features a blind green which is elevated and difficult to reach with one shot. At 244 yards hole seven is challenging to make a par three.

Facilities include a chipping area and putting green. The clubhouse has snacks and beverages. The real attraction of the course are the low prices. Greens fees for 9 holes are $8 and $4 for an additional 9 holes. An electric cart is prices at $5 and $2 for a pull cart. The season spans from March 15 – November 30 weather permitting.

I found the greens to be in decent shape, the fairways on the other hand could not be distinguished from the rough. Don’t go to this course expecting it to be in immaculate condition. Overall it is a good course for the price. The time it takes to play nine holes walking is minimal. It is excellent place to go for kids, beginners, and those want to work on their short game. Studebaker is a good course for what it is; a low cost, quick way to improve your short game.

You will find serene lakes, coral sand bunkers, and cooling fountains. You will view spectacular scenery of the sparkling ocean and the dramatic volcano in the nearby distance.

Wailea Emerald
The Wailea Emerald course was given a Top Fairways Award as being one of the most golf-friendly courses for women. Additionally, it is considered one of the most fun Maui courses for all players. Spanning 6,825 yards, you will find carpet-like fairways, an abundance of vistas showing off the Ocean and the volcano, and plenty of colorful foliage. For players that like to have a challenge they will be able to tailor the course to their needs with the use of four and six tee boxes.

The Village Course
The Village Course is filled with all the right aspects to provide a breathtaking view and a challenging game. Your game will be graced with hilly terrain, plenty of bunkers, and 4 water hazards. Additionally, you will have breathtakingly scenic views of the Pacific Ocean, Lanai, and Molokai.

Makena North Course
Makena North is located on 1,800 acres of land. Naturally beautiful and unspoiled, this course is perfect for golfing in every way. This 18-hole course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The views of the Pacific are as clear as day. Many people play slowly as they end up watching the whales or looking to the neighboring islands in the distance. The tenth hole offers natural Hawaiian rock walls and there are natural gullies and streambeds throughout the entire course.
